This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate English teacher to join a supportive school that values student development and academic achievement. The role will involve teaching Key Stage 3 and 4 students, with the potential to teach Key Stage 5 depending on the candidate’s experience and expertise.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Monitor and track the academic progress of students, providing effective support and feedback.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the English department’s curriculum and teaching strategies.

  • Support the wider objectives of the school, including extracurricular activities and student enrichment.

  • Provide pastoral care and guidance as a form tutor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach engaging, well-structured English lessons that meet the needs of all students.

  • Develop, adapt, and evaluate lesson plans and resources to ensure they are inclusive and stimulating.

  • Assess student progress regularly, providing feedback and interventions as needed.

  • Contribute to maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.

  • Take part in the wider life of the school, including extracurricular activities and school events.

  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree in English or a related field.

  • Have successful teaching experience at secondary level (including teaching practice), ideally in diverse, multi-ethnic urban schools and within an 11–18 setting.

  • Understand the theory and practice of effective English teaching and learning, including literacy development and critical thinking.

  • Value the importance of high expectations, inclusive teaching, and the pastoral role of a form tutor.

  • Have a strong understanding of the National Curriculum requirements for English at Key Stages 3 and 4 (Key Stage 5 experience desirable).

  • Be confident in planning lessons, developing engaging resources, and assessing pupils’ reading, writing, and spoken language skills.

  • Work effectively as part of a collaborative English department and maintain positive relationships with colleagues across the school.

  • Possess good ICT skills, including the use of digital tools and interactive whiteboards to enhance learning.

  • Create an inspiring, supportive, and safe learning environment that fosters a love of English language and literature.

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, carers, and external partners when required.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and spoken communication skills.

  • Be organised, self-motivated, and capable of managing their own workload and deadlines.

  • Have strong time management skills and a flexible, solution-focused approach.

  • Be passionate about raising student achievement and aspirations through engaging and inclusive teaching.
