Salary: £28,000 – £43,000

Job Description

School in Bedford is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teacher to join the inclusive educational team. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to supporting students with diverse learning needs and ensuring they achieve their full potential. This role is ideal for an experienced SEN professional who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess individualized learning programs tailored to meet the needs of students with special educational needs.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional development of each student.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and external agencies to develop and implement effective support strategies.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to engage and motivate students.
  • Monitor and track student progress, maintaining detailed records and providing regular feedback to parents and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with teaching assistants and other support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student learning.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in SEN education and integrate new strategies and tools into teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the wider school community through participation in staff meetings, training sessions, and extracurricular activities.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
  • A relevant degree or postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs or a related field.
  • Experience teaching students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN legislation and best practices in inclusive education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.

Desirable

  • Additional certifications or training in specific SEN areas, such as Makaton, PECS, or ABA.
  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive learning materials.
  • Knowledge of behavior management strategies and interventions.
