Science Technician Role – Luton (via Choice Teachers)

Choice Teachers are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Science Technician to join a dynamic Science Department at a secondary school in Luton. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth running of the department, supporting both staff and students in delivering practical science lessons.

Key Responsibilities:
- Preparation of Equipment: Set up apparatus and materials for science experiments in line with teacher requests and curriculum requirements.
- Maintenance: Ensure all equipment is clean, well-maintained, and stored appropriately. Conduct routine checks on laboratory equipment and report or arrange repairs when needed.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Maintain high standards of safety in the lab, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. Safely dispose of chemical waste and ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous substances.
- Support for Lessons: Assist teaching staff during practical science lessons by providing technical support and troubleshooting issues during experiments.
- Stock Management: Monitor and manage stock levels of materials, chemicals, and other supplies, placing orders when required.
- Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records of inventory, equipment usage, and health and safety documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A qualification in a science-related subject (e.g., A-levels or equivalent). A degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
- Prior experience working as a Science Technician in a school environment is essential.
- Strong understanding of laboratory equipment, chemical handling, and health and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in maintaining and calibrating scientific equipment.
