An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced English Lead Practitioner to join a well-established secondary school in Bromley, London. This role is ideal for an outstanding English specialist looking to take on a leadership position focused on raising standards in English teaching and learning across the school.
The Role – English Lead Practitioner
As an English Lead Practitioner, you will play a key role in improving English teaching and learning, ensuring high standards of student achievement and supporting staff development. You will work closely with the English department, leadership team, and wider school community to drive excellence in literacy and English education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of outstanding English teaching across KS3, KS4, and potentially KS5.
- Support English teachers in delivering high-quality, engaging lessons that drive progress.
- Mentor and coach English department staff, ensuring the highest teaching standards.
- Develop and refine the English curriculum, ensuring it is ambitious and enriching.
- Use data tracking to assess student progress in English and implement targeted interventions.
- Monitor and evaluate English teaching strategies, driving continuous improvement.
- Contribute to whole-school literacy initiatives, promoting a culture of excellence in English.
- Ensure exemplary behaviour management and engagement within the English department.
- Play an active role in staff training and professional development related to English teaching.
Qualifications & Experience:
The ideal candidate will:
- Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant English degree.
- Have a strong track record of outstanding English teaching at KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable).
- Demonstrate exceptional subject knowledge and curriculum expertise in English.
- Have experience conducting lesson observations and providing developmental feedback.
- Show evidence of implementing successful strategies to raise achievement in English.
- Be confident in tracking student progress and using data to inform teaching.
- Ideally, have experience in a leadership or mentoring role within an English department.
