Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: England, Greater London, Islington

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Primary Industry: Education and Training

Job Duties:

  • Assist teachers in planning and delivering high-quality lessons
  • Provide support to students with special educational needs or disabilities
  • Lead small group activities and provide one-on-one support to students
  • Supervise students in classrooms, during breaks, and on field trips
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies
  • Prepare teaching materials and resources
  • Conduct assessments and provide feedback on student progress
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to create a positive learning environment
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as required
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
  • Good understanding of the national curriculum
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Excellent organisational and time management abilities
  • Patience and empathy when working with students

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting
  • Sound knowledge of educational practises and techniques
  • Familiarity with special educational needs and inclusion strategies
  • Proficiency in using educational software and technology
  • Ability to adapt and respond to the individual needs of students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) qualification
  • First Aid certification
  • Additional training in behaviour management or safeguarding
  • Experience working with diverse student populations

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily in a classroom setting within a school environment
  • Full-time hours, typically Monday to Friday
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work for school events or meetings
  • Regular interaction with students, teachers, and other school staff
  • Potential exposure to challenging behaviours and emotional situations
