Job Description: English Teacher

Choice Teachers is currently working with a highly regarded school in Maidenhead, seeking a talented and enthusiastic English Teacher to join their team for a long-term position starting in September.

Temporary Teacher of English (Full Time)

  • Role: Temporary Teacher of English (Full Time)
    • Please note that while QTS is preferred for this role, we welcome applications from other qualified candidates.
  • Subjects:
    • English (KS3-5)
  • Start date: September 2024
  • Duration: One term (until December school holiday)
  • Availability to interview: Immediate
    • There may be an opportunity for a trial day instead of a traditional interview, and if so, we will keep you informed.

Job Duties

  • Deliver engaging and effective English language lessons to students.
  • Plan and prepare lesson materials, including syllabi, assignments, and assessments.
  • Assess and evaluate students’ progress, providing constructive feedback.
  • Identify individual learning needs and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Encourage student participation and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement educational strategies.
  • Manage classroom behaviour and ensure student discipline.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student performance.
  • Stay updated with the latest teaching methods and educational resources.

Desired Qualifications

  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)


Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field


Prior experience in teaching English is preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Punctuality and strong time management abilities
  • Confidence in delivering lessons and engaging with students
  • Knowledge of curriculum standards and educational practises
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet varying student needs
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education or a related field

Working Conditions

The English Teacher will primarily work in a classroom setting within a school or educational institution. The role may involve working with students of different age groups and varying abilities. The teacher will typically follow a regular schedule, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for parent-teacher meetings or extracurricular activities.
