Summary

Choice Teachers is seeking an experienced and passionate educator for the position of Coordinator of Business, IT, and Computing. This leadership role provides a unique opportunity for a dynamic individual to shape and drive the vision for these critical subject areas, particularly Business, from Key Stage 3 to Sixth Form.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in teaching Business or Economics at A Level, coupled with a proven record of fostering academic excellence and creating engaging, differentiated learning experiences for a diverse range of students. You will play a key role in preparing students for academic success, career readiness, and real-world applications of Business, IT, and Computing.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a forward-thinking departmental vision that positions Business as a flagship subject and aligns with the school’s strategic priorities.
  • Teaching and Learning Excellence: Oversee the planning, delivery, and evaluation of a high-quality, innovative, and inclusive curriculum in Business, IT, and Computing that caters to a variety of learning styles and abilities across Key Stages 3-5.
  • Student-Centered Focus: Actively monitor and analyze student progress, ensuring all students are supported to achieve or exceed their academic potential in Business and associated subjects. Promote opportunities for project-based learning, enterprise activities, and competitions to enrich the Business curriculum.
  • Staff Development: Support, mentor, and develop teaching staff within the department, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional learning, especially in delivering Business courses.
  • Resource Management: Manage departmental budgets and allocate resources efficiently, ensuring the provision of high-quality learning materials and technologies to support the delivery of Business and IT courses.
  • Curriculum Innovation: Stay updated on current trends and changes in Business education, integrating these into the curriculum. Promote the development of entrepreneurial skills and digital literacy as part of a comprehensive Business offering.
  • Cross-Curricular Collaboration: Work with other departments to embed Business concepts into wider school initiatives, ensuring students gain holistic skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Engagement with Stakeholders: Build strong relationships with parents, governors, and external organizations to enhance students’ academic and career opportunities, including partnerships with businesses, universities, and technology providers.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct regular evaluations of teaching and learning within the department, ensuring all lessons, especially in Business, are engaging, inclusive, and aligned with national standards.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will:

  • Educational Background: Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree. Additional qualifications in leadership or a Master’s degree in Education are desirable.
  • Teaching Expertise: Demonstrate a history of teaching excellence at KS4 and KS5, particularly in Business or Economics. Experience in preparing students for external examinations in Business subjects is essential.
  • Leadership Skills: Have experience leading a department or team, with evidence of driving improvements and achieving measurable success, particularly in Business education.
  • Curriculum Knowledge: Be well-versed in the National Curriculum, including recent reforms and strategies for raising attainment in Business and Computing.
  • Data-Driven Approach: Use performance data and analytics to set challenging yet achievable goals and interventions that drive student progress.
  • Innovation in Teaching: Have experience incorporating technology into teaching, leveraging tools like virtual learning platforms, coding software, and online collaboration tools to enhance Business and IT learning.
  • Commitment to Inclusion: Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive education, with strategies to support SEN and EAL students effectively within Business and other subjects.
