We are recruiting for a committed and experienced BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant to join a forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in South East London. This role is ideal for a candidate who is confident using BSL to support students with hearing impairments and is available for a trial day ahead of a September start.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will work closely with students requiring communication support, using BSL to enable full access to lessons and school activities. You will collaborate with teaching staff and the SEN team to deliver consistent and high-quality support.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support using BSL

Interpret spoken English into BSL within the classroom

Promote academic and emotional development through BSL-based strategies

Contribute to planning and monitoring of progress using BSL

Support inclusion, wellbeing, and confidence through daily BSL interaction
Requirements:

Minimum BSL Level 2 (BSL Level 3 preferred)

Previous experience supporting students with hearing impairments

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

A caring and professional approach with a passion for inclusive education
