  • Encourage a positive and inclusive learning environment, enabling all students to reach their full potential in Science.
  • Contribute to the school’s ongoing goal of raising academic standards, particularly in Science, and improving student outcomes.
  • Play a key role in operational and strategic planning, including lesson planning, resource development, and contributing to departmental initiatives.
  • Collaborate on curriculum planning to ensure an engaging and challenging Science curriculum for all students.
  • Commit to your own staff development, engaging fully in the Performance Management Review process and continuing professional development.
  • Contribute to quality assurance efforts by assisting with the monitoring and evaluation of Science teaching and learning.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress and development, using data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Foster strong communication with students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure effective collaboration and student success.
  • Take part in the pastoral system as a form tutor, supporting the well-being and personal growth of your students.

Qualifications and Experience:

The successful Teacher of Science will have:

  • QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree in a Science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).
  • Proven teaching experience at secondary level, ideally with experience in multi-ethnic urban schools and an 11-18 setting.
  • A clear understanding of effective teaching and learning practices, particularly in Science.
  • Familiarity with National Curriculum requirements for Science at KS3 and KS4, including experience in lesson planning, resource development, and student assessment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, building positive relationships with staff and students alike.
  • Strong ICT skills, with experience using technology such as interactive whiteboards to enhance learning in Science.
  • The ability to create a motivating and safe classroom environment that supports all students’ learning needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, for engaging with students, parents, and external agencies when needed.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage your own workload effectively.
  • A passion for motivating students and raising their aspirations, particularly in Science.
