Role Overview
As a Teacher of History, you will play a crucial role in delivering a broad and engaging curriculum that helps students appreciate the past while developing critical thinking and analytical skills. Your responsibilities will include:
- Planning and delivering high-quality, differentiated History lessons that engage and challenge students at all levels.
- Supporting students in their academic and personal development, helping them reach their full potential.
- Contributing to curriculum development and strategic planning within the department.
- Monitoring student progress and using data to inform teaching and raise attainment.
- Taking on the role of a form tutor, supporting the pastoral development of a group of students.
- Collaborating with colleagues to ensure that teaching resources, lesson plans, and assessments are aligned with departmental and school goals.
- Contributing to the overall success of the school through participation in staff development and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate will:
- Hold QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree in History or a related field.
- Have teaching experience at the secondary level, including teaching practice (experience in an 11-18 school setting is ideal).
- Be well-versed in the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning.
- Understand the importance of high expectations and equality of access for all students.
- Possess strong knowledge of the National Curriculum at KS3 and KS4, with experience in lesson planning, resource development, and student assessment.
- Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and maintain positive relationships with all staff.
- Have a good level of ICT skills, with the ability to integrate technology, such as interactive whiteboards, into lessons.
- Be able to create a motivating and safe learning environment for all students.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and external agencies as necessary.
- Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
- Be able to inspire and motivate students, raising their aspirations and encouraging a passion for History.
