About the Role:
Choice Teachers is excited to advertise a fantastic opportunity for a Subject Leader of PE with one of our trusted clients. We are seeking a qualified and experienced teacher with subject leadership expertise to take on the role of Subject Leader of PE, leading and establishing outstanding provision in physical education across the academy.
As Subject Leader of PE, you will join a dynamic and supportive team, working to deliver excellence in the PE curriculum. Your leadership will be crucial in driving academic success, establishing effective systems and structures, and fostering an environment that aligns with the academy’s vision and values. You will also play a key role in ensuring high standards in teaching and learning, promoting both student and staff development, and achieving outstanding student progress in PE across all key stages.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish outstanding provision within the PE department, ensuring all programmes, systems, and structures align with the academy’s vision and values.
- Take accountability for student progress and development across PE, meeting agreed achievement targets for PE and contributing to whole-school success.
- Maintain and enhance high standards of teaching and learning in PE, continuously developing the quality of provision.
- Lead the development and implementation of a relevant, engaging, and differentiated PE curriculum for all year groups.
- Ensure consistent implementation of school policies and procedures within the PE department.
- Manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial resources, and physical resources effectively, ensuring the smooth running of the PE department.
- Lead the development of literacy within PE, helping to raise overall academic standards across the academy.
- Drive curriculum innovation, fostering a culture of continual improvement in teaching, learning, and achievement within PE.
Qualifications and Experience:
The successful candidate for Subject Leader of PE will have:
- QTS (or equivalent) and a relevant undergraduate degree, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
- At least three years’ teaching experience, ideally with experience across KS3, KS4, and KS5.
- A solid understanding of the theory and practice of effective teaching and learning in PE.
- Knowledge of National Curriculum requirements for PE at KS3, KS4, and KS5.
- Experience delivering high-quality INSET to staff and using coaching to support ongoing professional development.
- Proven success in raising achievement, either as a subject leader or classroom practitioner.
- Familiarity with monitoring, evaluation, and review processes to improve teaching and learning.
- Strong ICT skills and the ability to integrate new technologies into PE education.
- A forward-thinking approach to curriculum development in PE, with a focus on student engagement and achievement.
