School Caretaker – January Start

About the Role

Choice Teachers are recruiting for a reliable and proactive Caretaker to join one of our partner secondary schools from January. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced site professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning school environment.

You will play a key role in ensuring the school operates smoothly on a day-to-day basis by supporting site security, maintenance, compliance, and general caretaking duties.

Key Responsibilities

• Opening and securing the school premises, including building checks and alarm activation

• Carrying out routine maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks

• Supporting site safety, ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures

• Conducting regular inspections of the building, grounds, and equipment

• Liaising with contractors and assisting with scheduled works

• Responding quickly to maintenance requests and safety concerns

• Ensuring cleanliness around school grounds and supporting cleaning teams when required

• Setting up rooms for school events, exams, and activities

• Managing stock levels and ordering supplies as needed

What We’re Looking For

• Previous caretaking, maintenance, or site management experience (school experience desirable)

• Practical skills across basic plumbing, electrics, joinery, or general DIY

• A strong understanding of Health & Safety, safeguarding, and site security

• Reliability, good communication, and the ability to work independently

• A positive, proactive attitude with excellent problem-solving skills

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one through us)
