About the Role

A forward-thinking secondary school in Houghton Regis is seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Geography to lead and inspire the Geography department from September. This leadership role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the curriculum, motivate students, and manage a team of dedicated staff within a supportive and inclusive school community.


️ Responsibilities

  • Lead the Geography department, including curriculum development and delivery across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Manage and support Geography teaching staff, fostering professional development and high teaching standards

  • Monitor and track student progress, ensuring excellent outcomes at GCSE level

  • Promote innovative and engaging teaching methods that inspire students and encourage a deep understanding of geographical concepts

  • Oversee the organisation of trips, fieldwork, and enrichment activities to enhance learning experiences

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to whole-school initiatives and policies

  • Manage departmental budget and resources efficiently


✔️ Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Proven experience teaching Geography at secondary level, including GCSE

  • Previous leadership or middle management experience within a Geography department preferred

  • Strong subject knowledge and passion for Geography education

  • Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills

  • Ability to motivate and inspire both students and staff

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
