Choice Teachers are working with a forward-thinking and ambitious secondary school in South East London to recruit an exceptional Director of Learning for English. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced English specialist to lead, innovate, and inspire within a thriving department.
The Role
As Director of Learning for English, you will take full responsibility for leading the English department across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. You’ll ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality English teaching, implement an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, and drive literacy across the whole school.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership for the English department

Develop and deliver an engaging English curriculum that promotes a love of language and literature

Monitor student achievement in English and implement intervention strategies where needed

Lead and support a team of English teachers, ensuring consistently high standards of teaching and learning

Oversee planning, assessment, and curriculum development in English

Champion literacy across the school and lead on whole-school English initiatives

Model outstanding English teaching and provide ongoing CPD and coaching to staff

Analyse departmental data to improve outcomes in English
What We’re Looking For:
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in English or a related subject

At least 2 years of strong English teaching experience with evidence of raising achievement

Previous experience in leading a department or subject area, ideally within English
-
A deep understanding of the English national curriculum and assessment requirements

Proven ability to inspire and lead a team of English educators

A passion for developing students’ literacy and a love for English language and literature
