The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Humanities specialist to join as Director of Learning. The successful candidate must have a strong track record of delivering Geography at GCSE. The ability to teach A-Level Geography is desirable but not essential.
This leadership role involves curriculum development, staff management, strategic planning, and raising achievement across the Humanities faculty.
Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage the Humanities department (including line management of subject leads and teachers)

Deliver high-quality Geography teaching up to GCSE (A-Level preferred)

Drive improvements in teaching and learning across History, RE, and Geography

Use performance data to set departmental targets and drive progress

Coach and develop teaching staff, support CPD and performance reviews

Innovate curriculum design and assessment practices
-
Engage with parents, the wider community, and external educational partners

Lead intervention and enrichment programmes beyond the classroom
Essential Criteria
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
-
Degree in Geography or a related subject (2:2 or above)

Proven success teaching Geography at GCSE level

Leadership or middle management experience in a school setting

Excellent understanding of curriculum, assessment, and intervention strategies

Strong communication, organisational, and coaching skills

Commitment to student progress and staff development
Desirable Criteria

Experience teaching A-Level Geography

Experience within a Multi-Academy Trust environment

Middle management qualification (e.g., NPQML/NPQSL)
