Art Teacher – Specialist Education Setting (KS3–KS5)

Location: Hatfield
Contract: Ongoing
Salary: MPS/UPS

We are seeking a fully qualified, resilient, and creative Art Teacher to join our specialist education setting, supporting highly vulnerable young people across KS3, KS4, and KS5.

About the School

Our school currently supports up to 38 students, with potential to expand. We follow the National Curriculum and offer students the opportunity to complete GCSE qualifications, including GCSE Art. While primary provision is available, the school predominantly supports secondary and post-16 learners.

Students attend the site from 9:00am to 3:45pm, with a 2-hour lunch break at 12:00pm. Each day begins with an 8:30am staff debrief, where staff are fully briefed on any overnight incidents, safeguarding updates, or wellbeing concerns.

The Role

As an Art Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality Art lessons in line with the National Curriculum
  • Plan and prepare students for GCSE Art where appropriate
  • Adapt creative learning to meet a wide range of emotional and educational needs
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Support students requiring high levels of staffing, including up to 3:1 support, depending on individual needs
  • Uphold strong safeguarding practices and maintain professional boundaries at all times

The Students

Our students present with complex emotional and mental health needs and are considered high risk. Staff must be confident working in an environment where students may be prone to self-harm or suicide attempts, and where emotional resilience and a calm, trauma-informed approach are essential.

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
  • Have experience teaching Art across KS3–KS5
  • Demonstrate strong emotional resilience and professionalism
  • Be calm, patient, and confident managing challenging situations
  • Be committed to safeguarding and inclusive, trauma-informed practice
  • Experience in specialist, SEND, or alternative provision is desirable but not essential

Why Join Us?

  • A supportive, well-informed staff team with daily communication and debriefs
  • Small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios
  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and specialist training
  • The chance to make a meaningful and lasting impact on vulnerable young people through creativity and expression

Safeguarding Commitment:
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to enhanced DBS checks and appropriate safeguarding checks.
